One of the most contentious issues surrounding the PSP is the ability to play games without a UMD. Those games could be ripped from a UMD, or, according to Sony’s nightmares, downloaded off the internet.

One of the great things about the PSP is how it uses commonly used media formats. For example, playing music requires just mp3s. Sony, in a shrewd move, did not require their own format for music.

An unfortunate truth about the PSP is that while the machine is capable of an awe-inspiring amount, downloadable psp games are few and far between. However, there are a few pieces to tide you over while you wait to afford the new great game.

The PSP was designed to be far more than a game system, and it has certainly achieved that goal. One could argue that all the things it can do even exceed its gaming prowess. One area where the PSP displays particular competency is in its music playing ability.
